Comparing Two Texts
Read both passages carefully, then answer the questions below.
Passage 1: Tech-Free Weekends
Every Saturday morning, the Chen family puts all their devices in a box. No phones, no tablets, no computers until Monday. At first, twelve-year-old Maya thought it was the worst idea ever. But now she loves it. "We actually talk to each other," she says. "We play board games, go for walks, and Mum teaches me to bake." Maya's dad started the tradition after noticing everyone was always staring at screens during dinner. "Technology is useful," he explains, "but family time is precious. We need balance." Maya admits she sometimes misses her phone, but she wouldn't give up their tech-free weekends for anything.
Passage 2: Connected and Learning
Twelve-year-old James can't imagine life without technology. His tablet helps him with homework, and he video-calls his grandmother in Australia every week. "Technology brings us together," James says. Last month, he joined an online coding club and made friends from three different countries. His mum supports his screen time because she sees how much he learns. "He's teaching himself programming and graphic design," she says proudly. James uses apps to practise maths and reads e-books from the library. "Technology isn't bad if you use it wisely," he argues. "It opens up the whole world."
